The “Love That!” Symbol

Tis one hasn’t been sitting in "drafts" quite as long as the previous entry…

I saw this in an issue of Oprah’s "O" Magazine. She’s got this section where she feaures products that she "loves". She calls it "Love That!" I never noticed before that the symbol was my iconic prompt. maybe it was only this particular issue. Or maybe I’m not paying attention the way I should be.

I do, however, believe I should be saying "Love that!" a lot more than I do 🙂

A Memo about giving

A Memo about givingI read an article in the September issue of O Magazine about a woman who had 18 surgeries over a period of 30 years to correct cleft issues she’d been born with. She was never satisfied after any of the surgeries and could not see herself as anything but disfigured, despite people telling her that she was beautiful.

It was not until she began to give, to help others see past the face and into the heart, that she was able to embrace what was meaningfully and indelibly beautiful about herself.

I read that just last night, and today this shows up in the mail – a request to help those with craniofacial conditions who are too poor for surgery, by donating to Smile Train.

There is one lesson of which the Universe need not remind me, because I have learned it well – the more you give, the more it comes back to you. Generosity always ends up benefitting the giver, sometimes in ways that cannot be imagined. Just send it out there and a blessing is returned.

In that same issue of O Magazine, Suze Orman advises someone in financial dire straights to cut the charitable giving because she can no longer afford it. While it is true that I am currently unemployed with no visible prospects on the horizon, it is also true that I am not in financial dire straights. “Don’t bleed till you’re shot”, my friend Susan often says. This is not the time to have guardedness and miserliness reflected back at me from the Universe. It’s not the time to start acting like I’m poor, like I have nothing to give. If anything, this is the time to send out there whatever it is that I want back .

So, I am going to send a message of generosity to the Universe. I have $25.00 per month in my personal budget tagged for donations and I’m not cutting it. I will use my account at to send October’s budgeted amount to Smile Train. It’s not much but it will help someone to get their surgery. And who knows what might come back at me? :o)

A “hidden happee”

Martha Beck says that making a successful vision board means tearing out images that appeal to you. Don’t go looking for something preconceived. Just tear out whatever rocks your socks. Here’s my first one – a hidden happee. Wasn’t on the lookout or anything. I knew it was my first one because it caused mirthful giggling. 🙂
